Arthur J. Gallagher founded our company in a Chicago basement office in October 1927. His business vision and client commitment has seen Gallagher grow into one of the world's largest insurance broking and risk management providers, with more than 650 offices in 30+ countries, including our extensive presence across Australia.
We think 'Art' would be very proud of what the company has become. But he'd be even prouder that Gallagher has remained true to its roots. At its heart Gallagher remains a family business. Our Global Chairman, President and CEO J. Patrick Gallagher - grandson of Arthur - began his career at the company as an intern in 1972, while nearly 20 other members of the Gallagher family hold positions within the organisation.

While many things have changed since Arthur set up shop in Chicago all those years ago, the tenets of honesty, integrity and client advocacy that he held dear are as relevant today as ever. We don't just pay lip service to this, either. Gallagher is proud to have been recognised as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute for seven consecutive years from 2012-18, the only insurance broker to have won this award. This recognition underscores the company's commitment to leading ethical business standards and practices.
